Gender Equality, Female researchers and families

Gender equality is an important strategic goal at Bielefeld University. There are several specific support measures for female researchers as well as for researchers with children.


Family Service Centre

Bielefeld University is in the process of establishing a family service centre. You can find our online-portal for families with advisory offers for families and people caring for dependants here. Information provided includes details on childcare facilities which can be attended by the children of young researchers at Bielefeld University. These include not just nursery schools for students and staff at Bielefeld University, but also emergency short term care.

Mentoring Program MentScience

MentScience is an inter-faculty mentoring programme for doctoral candidates in the Center of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology and in the Bielefeld Graduate School for History and Sociology (also financed by the Excellence Initiative-) and in the CoR-Lab Research Institute for Cognition and Robotics. The programme, which starts in Winter term 2009/2010, offers female doctoral candidates mentoring by an experienced researcher or someone in a leadership position outside the university. An extension of the programme to include other faculties is planned.


Scholarships for female doctoral candidates

Two thirds of the doctoral scholarships offered by the Rectorate of Bielefeld University are awarded to female doctoral candidates. More information here.
